How is a dump truck body “forged”?
The construction of modern society relies heavily on dump trucks, so how exactly are the superstructures for these vehicles manufactured? Today, we’ll take an in-depth look at the production process of dump truck superstructures.
First, based on customer requirements, the corresponding sheet metal is procured. Then, following the technical drawings designed by the engineering department, the following operations are performed:
Step 1: Material Cutting

Juxin Special Purpose Vehicles employs laser cutting equipment for material preparation and cold-forming machines for bending. This enhances material precision standards and minimizes stress release. All material corners feature rounded designs to prevent drivers from bumping or scratching themselves during operation.

After cutting is complete, proceed to Step 2: Body Welding
The dump truck body typically consists of a floor panel, side panels, front panel, rear panel, subframe, and various reinforcement structures.

Floor Panel: This is the primary component bearing the cargo weight, requiring sufficient strength and wear resistance to handle loading and unloading of diverse goods. Some dump trucks utilize high-strength wear-resistant steel plates for the floor panel to extend its service life. Our company employs robotic welding for floor panels, ensuring weld strength and weld penetration quality.
Side Panels: Located on both sides of the body, their primary function is to prevent cargo from falling during transport while forming the cargo-holding space with the floor panel. The height and strength of side panels vary based on the dump truck’s application and load capacity.

Front and Rear Panels: The front panel prevents cargo from shifting forward, while the rear panel opens during unloading to facilitate smooth cargo discharge. Both panels require sufficient strength to withstand cargo impact forces.

Step 3: Body Assembly Welding
Body assembly employs flip-welding fixtures, modifying prior processes by converting all vertical and overhead welds to flat-angle welding to enhance weld strength.
Different Body Structures:
Rectangular Body: The most common structure, offering advantages like simple design, easy manufacturing, and large loading capacity. Suitable for transporting various shapes and types of cargo, such as building materials and ore. However, during unloading, cargo tends to accumulate in corners, reducing efficiency.
U-Shaped Box: The side panels of a U-shaped box are curved. This design facilitates smoother cargo release during unloading, effectively minimizing residue and improving efficiency. Additionally, U-shaped bodies offer relatively superior strength and rigidity, capable of withstanding greater pressure.
However, their manufacturing process is relatively complex and costly, making them typically used in scenarios with higher unloading demands, such as urban construction waste transportation.
Step 4: Full-Body Shot Blasting
The body undergoes full-body shot blasting, passing through the equipment at a constant speed. Sixteen reciprocating blasting heads perform shot blasting on the interior, exterior, top, and bottom surfaces of the body.
Step 5: Powder Coating Process
The powder coating process produces a layer with outstanding mechanical strength, adhesion, corrosion resistance, and aging resistance. Typically using thermosetting or thermoplastic resins, the coating cures at high temperatures to become durable and resilient against environmental erosion. In the operating conditions of engineering dump trucks, this high-quality coating protects the body from damage caused by harsh road conditions and climatic factors, extending the vehicle’s service life.

The structure of a dump truck body may appear simple, yet it incorporates numerous design intricacies. From basic components to various reinforcement structures, and from different body designs to the application of new technologies, each element significantly impacts the truck’s performance and operational effectiveness. As a vital vehicle in the engineering transportation sector, the body structure of a dump truck directly determines its performance and operational efficiency.
